Within each individual is the simple desire to live in peace. That millions do not do so is a major blight on today’s civilization. What, then, prevents the manifestation of man’s deepest desire and hope?

To be sure, many factors play their part in the failure of nations and communities to live together in harmony: poverty in the midst of plenty must be seen as playing a powerful role in dividing man from man; but ancient hatreds and prejudices, their origins lost, often, in dim memories of the distant past, have an overwhelming influence on the lives and actions of many peoples. Beneath the surface of modern life, the ancient racial and tribal divisions exert, still, their power and sway.

Powerful political and economic forces, now global in their effect, but hide, and oft exacerbate, the tensions, East and West, North and South, which reflect the racial confrontation persisting for countless centuries.

Political adventurers

Today, where the conditions exist for that catastrophe, these tensions explode into open warfare. Political adventurers, hungry for power, cynically exploit the legitimate aspiration of people for freedom and cultural identity. Vast sums are needlessly wasted on the purchase of arms, and the ensuing wars take their inevitable toll. Thus it is today in Africa and South America and, until recently, in the Balkans. The rape of Bosnia and Croatia, initiated by the Serbian leadership, reflects the latent hatreds which so cruelly surfaced in that turbulent area.

The conflicts in the Middle East and Ireland bring yet another factor to this age-old problem: religious intolerance, from the earliest times, sows in profusion the seeds of chaos.

Opportunity

Meanwhile, Maitreya awaits His opportunity further to turn the tide. Already, the energy of Equilibrium, focused through Him by the Spirit of Peace, is driving these destructive forces into the open. There they can be resolved and so lose their ancient hold on men.

Slowly but surely, despite all evidence to the contrary, the tide is turning. These powerful cosmic forces, under the great Law of Action and Reaction, are purifying the hearts and minds of men. A new dispensation is being built in which a new harmony will prevail. In equal measure to the present discord so will be the peace.

Stand ready to see the Great Lord, for the time of His emergence is nigh. Respond quickly to His call to aid Him in His task and end for ever the hatred and intolerance of men.
