Statement by the Master

by the Master —, through Benjamin Creme, 14 November 2015

Painful as it has been for the people of France the recent tragic event in Paris has opened the way for Maitreya to act sooner than would otherwise have been the case. Tragic as it is for so many it has released His Hands. Remember this and be ready for His manifestation.

Benjamin Creme answers questions about recent events in Paris

Q. Would you say that the terrible event in Paris has held up or quickened the open ap- pearance of Maitreya?

A. Hard as it may seem for those involved in the tragedy it has opened doors for Maitreya which otherwise would have remained closed for longer.

Q. What factor in the Paris attacks has “opened doors for Maitreya”?

A. The invocative cry from humanity in response to the many problems in the world is one factor; another factor is that enough people around the world are responding to the event in Paris by choosing love, unity and tolerance. The enormity of this tragedy has brought many people together in a way which was not obvious before. It has shown that humanity is nearer to the idea of unity than we might think and this has coloured their reaction. They have shown that they are ready for change of the right kind.

Q. Could the Paris events have been prevented by the Masters?

A. Many in the groups that work with me, and probably people everywhere, may think that Maitreya should not have let this happen. Maitreya knows the Law, of course. He knows how much He can interfere, or otherwise, with our freewill.

The editors have decided to reproduce here an article from Benjamin Creme’s Master which is as relevant today as when it was first published. Readers may be interested to note that, with reference to the 11 September 2001 attacks in New York, the American government of the time was advised by the Spiritual Hierarchy to avoid a vengeful retaliatory response to those events. Recent events make clear that the advice still applies. Peace and justice for all must be the goal; sharing the resources of the world is the only way to achieve it. It would appear that enough people are responding as Maitreya has always said He knows we will: “My heart tells me your answer and is glad.”

Turn the tide of hate

A period of crisis has descended on the world, one that will bring many nations together in a new way. Mutual fear of terrorism has accomplished what otherwise would have taken years of patient effort to achieve. Even more strikingly, the reasons for terrorism – the hurt, the resentment, the baffled despair of millions in the East – are beginning to dawn on many Americans, enabling them to take a broader view of recent events, and call for caution in response. Above all, a new spirit of co-operation makes itself felt, a new sense of responsibility is dawning in the minds of many, East and West.

Thus this terrible attack, which killed and maimed so many at a stroke, has kindled the fires of change sorely needed in this world, and forced the hands which held it back. Out of this brutal crime may come, therefore, a greater understanding of the needs of men and women everywhere for justice and freedom and the rule of law.

By the standards applied by men, this tragedy has forced the major powers to assemble their military might and strike back in self-defence. Greater, by far, would be the wisdom of opening wide the granaries and the banks, to show an understanding of the problem, and the desire to make amends. Appeasement is not the answer but neither is war.

Only through fair and open trial before the world can the guilt or innocence of men be known. Only by acceptance of some responsibility for the conditions which drive men to these barbarous acts can they be overcome. Men who have nothing to lose put little value on the lives of others or their own.

The advice, therefore, which We, your Elder Brothers, extend to men is thus: call together all parties to the problems which lie behind the acts. Abstain from desperate vengeance and open the door to dialogue. Make sincere effort to understand the grievances of countless millions and help transform their lives and minds.

No longer can the rich impose their will by wealth and weapons alone; sharing of resources is inevitable as the only way to justice and peace.

Take, now, this opportunity to right the wrongs of the past, and remove for ever the canker of terror and outrage.

Maitreya watches from the wings awaiting the moment to emerge. His great heart releases the love which comforts and protects all who can respond; His uplifted hand blesses all who come near.

Take this, His love, and turn the tide of hate.

Q. The Master refers in His articles this year (2015) to change: He speaks of the need for change and points to changes yet to come. Some people fear change, but some welcome it.

A. Change is painful because so many people are still living under the influence of the energies of Pisces. They don’t easily see that change – from old structures to the new – would be beneficial.

There is a gradual shift in people’s perception of the world circumstances without them necessarily understanding, but there is a growing understanding that the world belongs to everybody. Change is painful for a lot of people but at the same time there is a growing acceptance that we have to see that the world belongs to all. This has to be the basis of a new approach otherwise whatever solutions we try will not work.

All groups (in all fields) that reflect in the direction of their work the changes that are coming are really pointing the path forward – the only way. There is no doubt that it is difficult, especially for some who are still steeped in the past. Nevertheless, the awareness is strong (even among the most backward-looking politicians) that a new inclusive approach is needed.

Q. The Pope and the Dalai Lama are calling for justice and peace; the Space Brothers are very obviously making Their presence known. Could we say that there is a definite plan of co-ordination involving Pope Francis, the Dalai Lama and the Space Brothers as part of the gathering of the forces of Light?

A. Yes, very much so.

Q. In Share International you talk about “UFOs" from Mars. How is it we cannot see Martians on Mars? Do they live in "jinas", that is in the invisible?

A. Mars is teeming with life, but not in the solid physical state. If you had etheric vision and you were able to go to Mars you would see the people there. There are in fact more people on Mars than there are on our planet (9 billion people).

Q. The Syria peace talks in Vienna (30 October 2015) to try to negotiate some peace, or settlement in Syria included Iran. Arch-enemies, Saudi Arabia and Iran took part in the talks. This is nothing short of a miracle; could it be that Maitreya has once again been working directly or indirectly to smooth progress towards negotiation?

A. Yes.

Q. Are the Masters and Maitreya working behind the scenes to try to impress world leaders with ideas on how to approach the problem of migrants and refugees fleeing conflict and/or poverty and desperate circumstances in their home countries?

A. Yes.

Q. I was just wondering about the Day of Declaration and the overshadowing of humanity. Do I have a choice on whether or not I want to be overshadowed? If I don’t, then is not my freewill being violated?

A. You are at liberty to ignore it.

Q. A veteran NASA employee, whose job was overseeing safety procedures during space-shuttle flights, has recently claimed that while monitoring via closed-circuit television a shuttle mission in 1997 he saw a nine-foot tall extraterrestrial being interacting with space-suited astronauts in the shuttle's open cargo bay, and also saw an ET spacecraft floating next to the shuttle. (1) Did this encounter actually happen? (2) Were there other similar encounters during shuttle missions that are being kept top-secret?

A. (1) Yes. (2) Yes.

Q. Could you please explain what the difference is between mind and brain?

A. Colossal emphasis is placed on the brain today, mistaking it for the mind. Mind and brain are not the same. The brain is the physical plane vehicle for thought and experience. Mind is that which has the experience. Mind experiences while the brain is a kind of co-ordinator of information.

Q. If a person wants to do Transmission Meditation, but doesn't have a group nearby to attend, and didn't managed to find two other people to form a group, is it best to do Transmission Meditation alone, without linking mentally with any group, or try to link mentally with a group doing Transmission Meditation at a certain time?

A. It is better to link up with a group.

Good exercise

Dear Editor,

A few years ago, I was driving to Transmission Meditation. I had been thinking about certain aspects of my life and how much I struggle and work at something for years with little to no results. I was frustrated and tired and wanted to just give up. Right then I look over and there is this older black lady with a walker struggling to walk up a very slight hill on the sidewalk. It seems like each step is a painful ordeal for her. One inch at a time she slowly and with much effort tries to walk up the hill. At that moment, a young couple, dressed in very nice exercise clothing run past her right up the hill with no effort at all. They don't even seem to notice this lady who is walking so painfully up the hill.

Right then, I realized how in some aspects of my life I am the couple, running up the hill with ease and hardly any effort. In some aspects, I am that woman struggling painfully bit by bit for years, at something, like Transmission Meditation, with little to no results. I started to ease up on myself and lighten up and not be as frustrated.

Was that lady a Master? Were the young couple also special?

Thank you for all you do!

G.W., Smyrna, Georgia, USA.

(Benjamin Creme’s Master confirms that the lady was a spokeswoman for the Master Jesus. The young couple were also spokespeople for the Master Jesus.)

Dear Editor,

On Wednesday 10 September 2014, about 19.30, I was walking around the De Rose gendarmerie compound at Dugny, France. Looking at the setting sun, I greeted the highest expression of divinity in our solar system. On the façade of an apartment building, I then noticed a cross of light with a heart of light underneath. As I currently have a heavy heart because of a relationship problem, I interpreted these light patterns as a sign of support from the Masters of Wisdom, as well as of encouragement to love and forgive. Were these signs really coming from a Master of Wisdom?

A.G., Dugny, France.

(Benjamin Creme’s Master confirms that the light formations were manifested by a spokesperson for the Master Jesus.)

Dear Editor,

I was driving on the night of 23 October 2015 near my home when an object caught my attention. It was in the sky, an orange star-like object. When I saw it, it was shining very strongly in the sky, but after a minute or so it stopped shining and disappeared. Could your Master tell me what it was?

T.S.A., Bragança Psulista, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

(Benjamin Creme’s Master confirms that the object was a spaceship from Mars.)

Three letters from the same writers:

Happy supporters

Dear Editor,

(1) On17 October 2015, a week after the large annual lecture in Amsterdam, we held and advertised a “theme discussion” based mainly on a presentation of the magazine – both Share International and Share Nederland. The photo exhibition was still on so we hoped to attract people for both the discussion and the exhibition. It was a good afternoon with quite a number of new visitors and some familiar faces.

After everyone had gone two young men – one looked Turkish or Moroccan, the other of African descent – both with lovely, lively intelligent faces suddenly appeared outside and stopped to look at our window display. The display is also part of the photo exhibition, all about Maitreya’s priorities. The two young men looked carefully at everything, read some of the quotations in the photo captions, took it all in, and then looked in smiling broadly and both gave a big emphatic thumbs-up sign with both hands. They grinned, did a thumbs-up again, waved and went off. (A few minutes earlier we had just been talking about the Dutch expression for “thumbs-up”.)

Were the smiling young men spokesmen, by any chance?

(Benjamin Creme’s Master confirms the young men were spokesmen for the Master Jesus.)

Familiar visitor

(2) On 12 September 2015 we held an ‘Open Day’ and an exhibition at the Share Nederland Information Centre. Only a handful of visitors came. We think that perhaps ‘open days’ are not for us; in future we’ll simply present specific events like lectures, exhibitions and so on. We’re open 6 days a week and often 7 days anyway!

Towards the end of the afternoon a familiar figure appeared outside. As usual the young man appeared with his bicycle and stood outside the Centre window, muttering to himself as he always does. He grinned at us and left. We’re grateful he came again, since it always seems like an endorsement, encouragement and a sort of a ‘thumbs up’. May we presume that our repeat visitor was indeed (as confirmed several times previously) a spokesman for the Master Jesus?

(3) On 19 October 2015, a few group members spent a couple of hours thinking about and planning the new programme in the Information Centre for the first quarter of 2016. At some point, the issue of the importance of the Information Centre was raised with regard to distributing flyers, activities at the Centre to make known information about the emergence of Maitreya, and so on.

Towards the end of the day the by-now very familiar young spokesman appeared. He went straight to the free literature we have just outside the front door, then he grinned and, with some emphasis, waved at us with the programme book. His big smile and the way he waved the booklet made us laugh. May we presume that we had yet another quick visit from our ‘usual spokesman’ for the Master Jesus?

Co-workers, Share Nederland Information Centre, Amsterdam.

(Benjamin Creme’s Master confirms that on both occasions described the visitor was a spokesman for the Master Jesus.)

Special service

Dear Editor,

On Friday 11 September 2015, I needed to carry on working at the Information Centre after Transmission Meditation and eventually finished around midnight.

I was a bit tired but planned to walk home, but also thought that if a tram came I would take it. I started off in the direction of home and towards a tram stop which is on my way; after a minute or two, I saw a tram coming along behind me. I didn’t mind if I missed the tram but started running, though not too fast. Then I noticed that the tram seemed deliberately to have slowed down, as if to give me time to get to the stop easily. As the tram approached the young woman driver gave me a big smile. I returned it and got on at the back where the conductor sits. He was a lovely young man, who looked familiar. We both greeted each other happily; I thanked him and the driver – acknowledging that they seemed to have waited for me. I sat down and then noticed I was the only passenger. The tram didn’t stop until we got to my stop. I thanked them again, waved to both as I got out, they smiled and waved back. It had all gone so easily. It just made me wonder – was this a special ride? With special people? Or were they simply lovely thoughtful people and I was just lucky?

F.E., Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

(Benjamin Creme’s Master confirms that the driver and conductor were working for the Master Jesus.)

Second thoughts

Dear Editor,

On 29 May 2015 I went to Vienna city to do some shopping and fetch some household products which I had ordered via the internet. Walking in the pedestrian area of Mariahilferstrasse a small blonde woman approached me and asked me if I had a job for her as a charlady.

As I knew that my wife would never accept a charlady without reference, I said, sorry, but I have no job for you, and gave her two Euros and went on to the other side of the street. The lady was running after me and screamed, asking to listen to her at least. I told her that I had some minutes left and we moved to a quiet spot, where she reported to me about the severe situation of her family (husband and three children) in Serbia after the recent massive flooding.

Their house is still under water, and all their belongings were destroyed, her husband and children are now living in a military camp, where the situation is awful. She was fluently speaking German and elaborated her story in great detail. When it came to my mind how good her German was, she immediately told me that in Serbia she worked as a German teacher. Later I had another thought: why is she dressed so well? Her reaction was an immediate movement of her right leg pointing to her shoe, telling me that she got these clothes from an aid agency. Finally she told me that she has to leave Vienna in three weeks and needs the money for back rent for the three months.

I was overwhelmed by her report and got out my wallet again and withdrew a €50 banknote, when doing so a €100 note poked out of my wallet. When I gave her the €50 note she asked me: “Why don’t you give me the €100 and I return the €50 to you?” This unexpected request shocked me deeply and I was unable to reply anything. I turned around and left her, without looking into her eyes once again. A bad feeling overcame me, when I figured out, that I could have given her the €100 note, as I still had enough money with me to do all my shopping.

May I ask, if your Master could tell, if this was an ordinary lady from Serbia or someone special?

F.B, Vienna, Austria.

(Benjamin Creme’s Master confirms that the ‘Serbian lady’ was a spokesperson for the Master Jesus.)

Dear Editor,

Last Saturday, 31 October 2015, I went to walk in the park close to my flat. I was worried with regard to the organization of our big national conference in Lyon, on 29 November this year. Several newspapers had refused our ads and internal difficulties of group work had made me gloomy. I also had a concern with regard to the choice of the room (a Jewish cultural centre, named Hillel).

On my way back, I saw a point of light at a small altitude over my head – first I thought it was a small plane but I could only see kind of a dot reflecting the light of the sun. It was drawing letters in the sky: O, U, I, H and K. Several people had stopped to look and take photos. Having finished the drawing of a letter, the dot disappeared, and reappeared a little farther to draw a new shape by a release of white smoke.

I thought laughingly that it was maybe Maitreya who was having fun! Then I said to myself that if he was willing to give me a sign, it would be by a more spiritual design!

At the same moment, the small ‘plane’ drew very clearly a cross!

It left me at the same time perplexed and joyful, then the plane disappeared. Was it a sign to tell me that the conference will go well? Since then, indeed, doors opened and I restored my self-confidence.

Could you tell me if it was a sign of encouragement and if so, by whom was it produced? What was the meaning of the letters?

G.J., Lyon, France.

Compilation - an extract

We present a selection of quotations on the theme of ‘Towards the ending of conflict’. The quotations are taken from Maitreya (Messages from Maitreya the Christ and Maitreya’s Teachings – The Laws of Life), Benjamin Creme’s Master (A Master Speaks and Share International), and Benjamin Creme’s writings.

The power of the people’s voice breaks through the age-old bondage and points the way to the future. More and more, the people are realizing that the role of government is to dispense the needs of the people, that there is no problem or difficulty in which war is the only solution. The sour voices of power-hungry leaders may, for the moment, seduce the fearful or unwary, but their time is limited, is drawing to a close.

A new time is in the making – of justice, freedom and peace. In this coming time the peoples of all the nations will see fulfilled their dreams and hopes of a better life: of meaning and purpose, of beauty and understanding, of right relationship and love. Each day will bring a new discovery, inner and outer, each hour an opportunity to serve. Thus will it be, and thus will each man, woman and child glorify the divine in all of us, and show in all its variety the many-sided beauty of God. (Benjamin Creme’s Master, from ‘The ending of bondage’)

Let us together show the world: that the need for war is past; that the instinct of man is to live and to love; that hatred is begotten of separation; that the Law of God lives in man and is fundamental to his nature. All of this shall I show you. Work with Me and prove this to be true. (Maitreya, from Message No.53)

The potency of His [Maitreya’s] energy of Love – the ‘Sword of Cleavage’ – has produced the polarization which now exists, and will show clearly the way forward for humanity. Around Him will gather all those who stand for inclusiveness and love, justice and freedom of the human spirit. Those who stand for separativeness and exploitation, competition and greed will likewise stand revealed, and the choice before humanity will be crystal clear: between love and hate, between sharing and greed, peace and war, life and death. The Christ has said (in Message No.11, January 1978): “My heart tells Me your answer, your choice, and is glad.” Responding to His Love energy, people in every country (it is already happening) will form themselves into groups demanding justice and peace and right relations. Soon these groups will become the largest and most potent force in the world, ushering in the new era of peace and goodwill. (Benjamin Creme, Maitreya’s Mission Volume One)

Within each individual is the simple desire to live in peace. That millions do not do so is a major blight on today’s civilization. What, then, prevents the manifestation of man’s deepest desire and hope?

To be sure, many factors play their part in the failure of nations and communities to live together in harmony: poverty in the midst of plenty must be seen as playing a powerful role in dividing man from man; but ancient hatreds and prejudices, their origins lost, often, in dim memories of the distant past, have an overwhelming influence on the lives and actions of many peoples. Beneath the surface of modern life, the ancient racial and tribal divisions exert, still, their power and sway.…

Meanwhile, Maitreya awaits His opportunity further to turn the tide. Already, the energy of Equilibrium, focused through Him by the Spirit of Peace, is driving these destructive forces into the open. There they can be resolved and so lose their ancient hold on men.

Slowly but surely, despite all evidence to the contrary, the tide is turning. These powerful cosmic forces, under the great Law of Action and Reaction, are purifying the hearts and minds of men. A new dispensation is being built in which a new harmony will prevail. In equal measure to the present discord so will be the peace. (Benjamin Creme’s Master, from ‘The end of conflict’)

There is no real enmity between peoples. Animosities arise out of the ideologies of political and religious leaders. A leader who cannot respect the human race, morally and spiritually, is not worthy of the name. “The world does not belong to politicians. You cannot afford a war. He who is humble, who respects the will of the Lord, will always say, ‘I am the servant, I am the messenger’ – never ‘I am the leader’. This is true of Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus and others.

The time has come for money to be spent on the welfare of the nations. Every nation, every country, belongs to the people. (Sep 1990) (Maitreya, Maitreya’s Teachings – The Laws of Life)

… do we share and recreate the world, make it possible for all people to live together in peace and plenty, “where no man lacks; where no two days are alike; where the Joy of Brotherhood manifests through all men”, as Maitreya said [Message No.3]? Or do we continue with the corruption and misery and eventually see the annihilation of our world?

That is the choice before humanity. Maitreya will emphasize this and people will see clearly. But people can see clearly even today. As far as Maitreya is concerned they are already seeing the choice which we have to make: between sharing and justice for everyone or a growing distance between peoples and a war which would destroy all life. That is the Sword of Cleavage.…

Maitreya states it clearly: “Men must share or die. There is no other course.” When it dawns on us that we share or we die, of course we will accept to share and that will create the conditions in which all can live in peace. (Benjamin Creme, The Art of Living)

My children, My friends, I have come more quickly, perhaps, than you expected. But there is much to do, much that needs changing in the world. Many hunger and die, many suffer needlessly. I come to change all that; to show you the way forward – into a simpler, saner, happier life – together. No longer man against man, nation against nation, but together, as brothers, shall we go forth into the New Country. (Maitreya, from Message No.1)

“The deepest dark is just before the dawn” goes the old adage, and thus it is today for men. Amid the chaos and fear, the perplexity and pain, We see the resolution and the end of conflict, the glow of the light which will awaken men to the promise of the future.

All works under Law and a new state of equilibrium is being created by Us. Appearances notwithstanding, a new rhythm asserts itself and will bring into balance this discordant world.

Maitreya Himself wields this mighty Law and brings its cosmic origin to the affairs of men. Thus will new hope arise in men and thus will they take the steps to reshape their future in accordance with the Plan. (Benjamin Creme’s Master, from ‘Maitreya hastens to emerge’)

My Mission, as I have said, is twofold: to release you from the bondage of your self-imposed limitations, and to take you with Me back to God. I shall show you that through the right distribution of this Earth’s manifold resources, all men may enjoy God’s bounty. I shall show you, too, that the Path to God is simple indeed, that your Divine Spark will become manifest through Me.

Let Me do this work for you, My friends. Let Me lead you into your divine heritage. I shall show you wonders of which you cannot dream. I shall release from your eyes the blindfold of ignorance. I shall drive from this Earth forever the curse of hatred, the sin of separation. Let Me take you with Me, My friends, back to your Source, back to the cradle of your Being, and release in you your Godhead. (Maitreya, from Message No.51)

The prayers and cries for help which rose to Maitreya from humanity throughout the First and Second World Wars led to Maitreya’s decision (in 1945) to return, Himself, to the world, not to end the war and, therefore, the suffering, but to show us a new way, the way of peace. In other words, He did not come to end war but to inspire us to end war – through sharing and justice….

I believe (with Maitreya) that: “Nothing happens by itself. Man must act and implement his will.” (Message No. 31) I do not think we get peace simply by praying for it. We get peace by removing the causes of war – injustice, greed, selfishness, competition, market forces, national pride. (Benjamin Creme, Maitreya’s Mission Volume Two)

When Maitreya makes His appearance, openly, to all, He will inspire the creation of a saner attitude to life grounded in serving the needs of men and women everywhere. He will show that the conflicts of the present are not inevitable. That leaders of nations have a responsibility to humanity at large, and not alone to their subjective feelings or ideology. He will call for caution and wisdom with regard to today’s weapons of terrible power, and warn of the fruitlessness of war ‘for the sake of peace’.

Peace, He will show, is not difficult to find if honestly sought. Peace, He will say, will be achieved only with justice and freedom for all. (Benjamin Creme’s Master, from ‘A saner view of life’)

We have to look at the different stages of the establishment of brotherhood in the world. First of all, there has to be peace. Without peace, there is no world. The first priority for Maitreya is the establishment of true peace in the world: the abandonment by humanity of war and the competition that leads to war. This can only be achieved by fulfilling the needs of all the people….

Humanity has to accept a degree of oneness that will make it a normal and self-evident truth that the only way to peace is to share the resources of the world. (Benjamin Creme, Maitreya’s Mission Volume Three)

Many await My Coming with trepidation, fearing the loss of all that they have loved, all that they have amassed and gained. Fear not, My friends, for the loss will be the loss of separation only, of division and fear, of envy and hate. To clear these from the world, all must be remade. Know this, My friends, and be ready to share, to see your brother as yourself, to clasp him in your arms and call him friend. In this way, My brothers, you manifest God’s Plan. (Maitreya, from Message No.125)

It is becoming increasingly clear that the conflict between Good and Evil is being won by the Forces of Light. Gradually the Good is gaining the upper hand in this age-old struggle for the minds and hearts of men. To some, this may seem an astonishing statement to make in the light of the tensions and cleavages which exist in the world. Yet such is the case, and were you to see the world and events as do We, the Elder Brothers, you would see a world undergoing an extraordinary transformation. On all sides there is evidence that the old order is crumbling. Ancient hatreds divide the peoples and lawlessness abounds, but everywhere there are signs that a new spirit is awakening in man, a new sense of responsibility and a renewed reverence for life in all its forms.

Many are the manifestations of this new beauty; many and marvellous are the visions of the future opening up before mankind. Man stands as yet at the threshold, only, of a new beginning, yet already the signs of progress are there for those who have eyes to see.

We are witnessing now a polarization which is forcing humanity to choose. So fearsome are the dangers in the present modes of living that the spirit in man revolts and searches for the new. In this way is man brought to the recognition of the Will of God. Behind all stands the Plan, embodying that Will, and, knowingly or not, men are now ready to implement that Plan.

Groups of men are forming themselves on every hand to manifest the new. Inspired by love and the spirit of necessity they envisage a simpler and a saner world. They see that from the imbalances and tensions of the present must grow justice and harmony. They know that they are divine and can perform miracles of change. They sense the needs of the time and dedicate themselves to service. They represent the Good in every land. (Benjamin Creme’s Master, from ‘Victory is assured’)

We are even beginning to recognize, on a mass scale – not everywhere but generally speaking – that war is not an answer to our problems. If America wants to go one way and the Soviet Union (as it was) wants to go another, they have to find some compromise, and not just destroy everything in their path to prove a point. Co-operation is beginning to take place. Competition in economics is still there, but in a deeper sense co-operation is raising its beautiful head. The Masters see that, and They nod Their heads with joy. The Masters see that everywhere people are beginning to realize the fundamentals – that co-operation will succeed when nothing else will. We are not yet sharing the resources of the world, but we are talking about it. (Benjamin Creme, The Art of Co-operation)

My heart aches when I see so many needlessly die; hunger and pestilence stalk the Earth. Nothing so moves Me to grief as this shame. The crime of separation must be driven from this world. I affirm that as My Purpose.

I address you tonight as those who seek the truth. My friends, the Truth stands among you. The Truth is in your hearts. The Truth, My friends, My brothers and sisters, is Love and Sharing, Justice and Freedom. Make these manifest in your lives and communities, and re-establish the Plan of God. (Maitreya, from Message No.93)

An immediate first step is the realization that humanity is One, its needs are the same, everywhere, however varied and apparently conflicting the outer forms. The enormous discrepancies in living standards between the rich and poor countries make mockery of this essential Oneness, and have within them the seeds of war.

The answer therefore is simple: the implementation of the principle of sharing provides the solution to the divisions in our planetary life. Nothing less will do. Sharing is divine, part of God’s Plan for His children, and must one day become manifest. (Benjamin Creme’s Master, from ‘Political forms in the New Age’)

The rightness, the inevitability, the “commonsense-ness” of right relationship will be driven home to us. This will be the nature of the teaching of the Christ. It is fundamentally what we all know, but He will reiterate it and show the way to implement it – through sharing and co-operation on an international scale, removing fear: the fear of hunger, the fear of war, the fear and the mistrust and the despair that hangs over millions of humanity today. This will cause a tremendous reorientation of human thinking, and make way for the establishment of right relationships. (Benjamin Creme, The Reappearance of the Christ and the Masters of Wisdom)

The crime of separation, of division, of lawlessness must go from the world. All that hinders the manifestation of man’s divinity must be driven from our planet. My Law will take the place of separation. My Law is the Law of Love, of Brotherhood, of Justice and Truth. Know these things and follow Me. My Law will succeed, for the Law of Love emerges from the Being of God, and thus cannot fail. (Maitreya, from Message No.123)

Miraculous statue in Malaysia

Share International December 2015 issue image: Benjamin Creme’s Master confirms that this miracle is manifested by the Master Jesus.

A statue of the Madonna in a Malaysian church grotto has grown taller, and was seen to smile and shed tears, among other miraculous phenomena. The statue at the Church of St Thomas More in the city of Subang Jaya caught the attention of the public in October 2015 after an internet video showed a parishioner speaking to the congregation about the miraculous occurrences he had witnessed.

According to news reports, the church had a grotto built especially for their statue of the Virgin Mary. But some of the parishioners thought it was too small for the grotto, so the statue was placed in a box. When the parish priest took the statue out of the box for the public blessing ceremony, he noticed that the polyresin statue had turned to porcelain and had grown taller by three inches.

In the video clip the parishioner, who was present at the ceremony, said of the statue: “Her eyes were moving very slowly, all of us were there and we saw it. The father (the priest) was saying, ‘Look at her, she’s looking at us. She was full of life, she had a lot of tears in her eyes.’ When we started singing ‘Ave Maria’, she started smiling and her lips were moving.”

“It has touched all of us,” the parishioner said. “The father had told us that he actually spoke to her. She will come more often. She also told the father that she wants all of us to pray to her.” (Source: freemalaysiatoday.com; the star.com.my; themalaymailonline.com)

Young people march for racial and climate justice

About 1,000 young people from across the US marched in Washington, DC on 9 November 2015 demanding racial, immigration and climate justice reform for a “broken” US political system.

Under the banner ‘Our Generation, Our Choice’, youth from a wide range of grassroots advocacy groups – including Million Hoodies, Working Families, 350.org and the Fossil Fuel Student Divestment Network – held a rally, engaged in nonviolent civil disobedience actions, and marched to the White House exactly one year before the 2016 US presidential election to “inspire urgency and courage from our elected leaders.”

“Youth as a collective are in crisis and face all kinds of obstacles in achieving our own potential,” said Varshini Prakash, regional networks co-ordinator at Divest Student Network. “We are standing here collectively – which is not something we see all the time – to be here with one voice. We need our politicians to follow our lead… and start making real changes on policies and the way our country is run.”

The young activists are demanding that the US Congress take immediate action to “keep fossil fuels in the ground, protect and respect the dignity and lives of immigrants, and black, brown, and poor communities; reinvest in healthy jobs, renewable energy, and an economy that works for all of us,” as organizers Yong Jung Cho, Waleed Shahid, Devontae Torriente, and Sara Blazevic wrote in a commondreams.org article before the protest.

“Politicians aren’t the only voices with power,” they stated. “We have power, too. And we have more power when we act together. Young people don’t live single-issue lives. We live at the intersection of the most pressing problems today. Our movements are connected and our purpose is huge.” (Source: commondreams.org, thinkprogress.org)

Teens sue US state government to demand action on climate change

A lawsuit filed by eight teenagers against the Washington state Department of Energy (DOE) for refusing to set a cap on carbon emissions is moving through the state court system. The young people, working through the nonprofit group, Our Children’s Trust, last year presented the DOE with current scientific data on climate change, and petitioned the agency to adopt stricter science-based regulations limiting greenhouse gas emissions. But the DOE denied their request, even after an initial ruling in May 2015 that ordered the agency to reconsider the petition.

“Kids understand the threats climate change will have on our future,” said Zoe Foster, aged 13, one of the plaintiffs in the case. “I’m not going to sit by and watch my government do nothing. We don’t have time to waste. I’m petitioning my government to take real action on climate, and I won’t stop until change is made.”

“We’re the ones who have to live with it if the oceans are acidic and the planet is five degrees warmer,” said Gabriel Mandell, aged 13. “The snowpack is melting. The ocean is acidifying. The Earth is warming. Everything that can go wrong is going wrong, and we need to fix it.”

The DOE oversees state environmental laws, and is currently relying on 2008 standards to create its current emission reduction targets. However, the agency has also previously admitted that those standards “should be adjusted to better reflect current science” and also “need to be more aggressive in order for Washington to do its part to address climate risks.”

“Under the law, the people of this state, including the kids who have brought this case, have a fundamental right to a healthy environment,” said Andrea Rodgers, an attorney at the Western Environmental Law Center, which is representing the young people in court. “These brave kids have worked extremely hard to present DOE with the most current and best available climate science, all of which the agency has ignored. It is now time for the court to step in and direct DOE to initiate a rulemaking process based on the best available science – not the most convenient policy – to protect these youths’ fundamental rights.” A decision is expected in the case before the end of 2015. Worldwide outpouring of support after Paris attacks

Following the 13 November 2015 attacks in Paris, people throughout the world gathered to honour the victims and show their support for all Parisians. It was as if the whole world united in solidarity with France. Vigils were held in dozens of cities and famous buildings and monuments across the world were lit up in blue, white and red in honour of the French Tricolore.

In Paris crowds gathered at the Place de la Republique to lay flowers and light candles. Written messages of support were offered at vigils: “Liberté, egalité, fraternité: non à la barberie.” (“Liberty, equality, fraternity: no to barbarism.”); “Vous ne tuerez pas notre liberté.” (“You will not kill our freedom.”).

A group of French imams sang La Marseillaise, the French national anthem, outside the Bataclan concert hall, one of the sites of the attacks, in solidarity with the victims.

Phrases such as “Je Suis Paris” and “We are all Parisians” appeared on news broadcasts and social media websites worldwide. A modified version of the International Peace Symbol by graphic designer Jean Jullien, in which the centre fork was changed to resemble the Eiffel Tower, was also widely spread by social media with the hashtags #PrayForParis, #PrayForFrance and #JeSuisParis.

There were many messages of defiance but equally pleas for peace and unity.

Muslims around the world condemned the attacks via social media in a campaign using #notinmyname. The Muslim Council of Britain issued a Statement of Solidarity: “… all British faith communities agree that those who commit acts of violence cannot do so in the name of any faith. Any such claim is illegitimate…. The perpetrators do not represent us; their views are perverse and self-serving…. Let us not play into their divisive narrative, and instead show them that people of all faiths and none can live peacefully, together.”

Avaaz, the campaign website, launched a petition Nous Sommes Unis (We are One) to build a “beacon of light” and to show that “our hope for the world will overcome the fear”. The campaign site 38 Degrees launched a ‘Message of Support for Paris’, reaching out to “all of the victims across the world including in Ankara, Beirut, Syria and Iraq, and to all the refugees forced to flee their homes to escape the very terror that hit Paris. Today, we stand together for peace.” One message read: “Stay strong, stay human. There is far more good in the world than evil.” (Source: theguardian.com, bbc.com, telegraph.co.uk, huffingtonpost.com; mcb.org.uk; Avaaz.org; 38degrees.org.uk)

Climate change poses ‘major threat’ to food security, warns UN expert

Climate change poses severe and distinct threats to food security, and could subject an additional 600 million people to malnutrition by 2080, a United Nations human rights expert warned today.

“Increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather, rising temperatures and sea levels, as well as floods and droughts have a significant impact on the right to food,” said Hilal Elver, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food, in a news release.

“All these climate incidents will negatively impact on crops, livestock, fisheries, aquaculture and on people’s livelihoods,” she added, warning that responding to the food demand through large-scale production oriented agricultural models is not the right solution.

Ms Elver also underlined the need for a major shift from industrial agriculture to transformative systems such as agro-ecology that support the local food movement, protect small holder farmers, respect human rights, food democracy and cultural traditions, and at the same time maintain environmental sustainability and facilitate a healthy diet.

“Those who have contributed the least to global warming are the ones set to suffer the most from its harmful effects,” she stressed. “Urgent action is needed to respond to the challenges posed by climate change, but mitigation and adaptation policies should respect the right to food as well as other fundamental human rights.”

The Special Rapporteur made her recommendations in advance of the UN climate change conference, known as COP 21, due to take place in Paris from 30 November to 11 December 2015. The aim of the summit is to achieve a universally applicable legal instrument under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“Civil society pressure is mounting on the parties of the UNFCCC to achieve results in Paris by adopting a human rights approach to the climate change agreement that will respect, protect and fulfil human rights of all persons, and especially those most vulnerable. Any agreement must include a clear commitment by all relevant parties to ensuring climate justice and food security for all,” Ms Elver said. “As jointly stated by all special procedure mandate holders on World Environment Day in June, governments should make sure that human rights are at the core of climate change governance.”

Meanwhile, the Special Rapporteur highlighted her concerns surrounding the impact of climate change on the right to food in her recent report presented to the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee in October.

‘Historic’ presidential U-turn

After seven years of review, President Obama rejected the Keystone XL fossil fuel pipeline proposal. The project aimed at transporting more than 800,000 barrels of tar sands oil each day from Alberta, Canada, to the southern Gulf Coast of the United States, to be refined, exported and burned.

In announcing the decision, President Obama said: “America is now a global leader when it comes to taking serious action to fight climate change. Frankly, approving this project would have undercut that global leadership and that is the biggest risk that we face. Not acting.”

The president’s decision was a huge victory for environmental activists who had worked tirelessly for several years to block the project. An article from the CommonDreams website stated: “Through years of unprecedented campaigning, ordinary people in the United States and Canada turned what could have been an unremarkable rubber stamping of yet another fossil fuel pipeline into an internationally-watched fight to stop climate change.

“Since 2011, communities across the United States have staged over 750 direct actions and protests across the country – from mass sit-ins at the White House to a tens-of-thousands-strong march on the National Mall. Farmers, workers, students, Indigenous peoples, and communities on the frontlines of oil refineries and extreme weather put their bodies and relationships on the line – risking arrest, talking to their neighbors, and taking to the streets.”

One of the leaders of the anti-Keystone XL campaign, 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben, said: “President Obama is the first world leader to reject a project because of its effect on the climate. That gives him new stature as an environmental leader, and it eloquently confirms the five years and millions of hours of work that people of every kind put into this fight.”

May Boeve, executive director of 350.org, added: “This is a big win. President Obama’s decision to reject Keystone XL because of its impact on the climate is nothing short of historic – and sets an important precedent that should send shockwaves through the fossil fuel industry.... More than anything, though, today’s decision affirms the power of social movements to enact political change, and a clear sign that our movement is stronger than ever.” (Source: ecowatch.com; commondreams.org; 350.org)

Assets pledged to fossil fuel divestment surpass $2.6 trillion

The amount of money the world has pledged to divest from fossil fuels now exceeds $2.6 trillion, according to an analysis by Arabella Advisors, a private consulting company that works with philanthropic groups. This figure is 50 times higher than the $52 billion that had been divested just one year ago.

More than 400 institutions and 2,000 individuals have pledged to divest from fossil fuels, the report said. These commitments include governments and investors from 43 countries and multiple sectors, such as pension funds, health, education, philanthropy, faith, entertainment, climate justice and municipalities. Notable pledges include from the Norway Pension Fund, the Canadian Medical Association, the World Council of Churches, the University of California system, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

Divestment strategies vary among participants. Some have removed investments from all fossil fuel companies. Others are beginning with coal and/or tar sands.

Among those pledging to divest, many are also pledging to invest in climate solutions such as clean energy, climate justice initiatives and sustainable agriculture. Institutions and individuals that have pledged to both divest and invest in clean energy collectively hold $785 billion in assets. Globally, investment in clean energy reached $310 billion in 2014.

Speaking about the rapid increase in divestment from fossil fuels, May Boeve, executive director of the environmental group 350.org, said: “If these numbers tell us anything, it’s that the divestment movement is catching fire. Since starting on the campuses of a few colleges in the US, this movement has struck a chord with people across the world who care about climate change, and convinced some of the largest and most influential institutions in the world to begin pulling their money out of climate destruction. That makes me hopeful for our future.” (Source: divestinvest.org; huffingtonpost.com; arabellaadvisors.com)

UN prepares the world for extreme El Niño

United Nations agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO) are scaling up preparations ahead of the strongest El Niño weather event predicted in two decades. Developing countries dependent upon agriculture and fishing, particularly those bordering the Pacific Ocean, are the most affected by the annual phenomenon. In Spanish, "El Niño" refers to the Christ Child, because it is around Christmas time that the water surface warms in the Pacific Ocean near South America. This El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) causes global changes of both temperatures and rainfall. El Niño-related health impacts include potential deaths, illness, malnutrition and psychosocial effects as well as displacement for local and regional populations.

WHO recently issued an updated report on Health Preparedness for El Niño Event 2015-2016 stating that the trend of unusual wet and dry conditions for November 2015 to January 2016 will continue. The report gives details of the extensive floods and droughts caused by El Niño around the globe. The extreme rainfall has resulted in food insecurity in Eastern Africa and Horn of Africa due to huge economic reduction in agriculture. Floods also trigger water-borne and vector-borne diseases such as cholera and Rift Valley Fever. In South America, flooding has caused large-scale landslides which destroy homes and infrastructure.

The opposite impact of El Niño is drought especially in the Pacific Islands. Water shortages reduce food harvests and economies, resulting in increased morbidity and mortality caused by malnutrition diseases.

On 26 October, the ‘2015 Pacific Regional Disaster Resilience Meeting’ was held in Suva, Fiji. Margareta Wahlström, head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) expressed deep concern about regional resilience to disasters. “These coming months have the potential to be the most testing period in the history of the Pacific Islands. The region’s vulnerability was exposed during the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in March when Cyclone Pam inflicted heavy losses on Vanuatu. Warming waters and rising sea levels resulting from climate change threaten the viability of life in many places in the region,” said Ms Wahlström. She added that The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction was adopted as a global blueprint for reducing disaster losses at the Third UN World Conference in Sendai, Japan, on 18 March 2015. Recommended measures include ensuring that the general public are risk informed and have access to early warnings and cyclone shelters; strengthening risk governance; investing in disaster resilient infrastructure and rapid response mechanisms for rebuilding after disaster strikes.

Timothy Wilcox, head of the Pacific Office for UNISDR said: “Parts of the region are now suffering drought and water shortages because of El Niño, while others are preparing for the strong likelihood that they will be hit by high winds, storm surges and heavy rainfall in the months ahead.”

On 28-29 October 2015, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) hosted the annual Pacific Humanitarian Partnership Meeting to strengthen relationships between partners working in disaster response, resilience and recovery, as well as to make preparations for the imminent climatic threats of El Niño. According to the OCHA, approximately 4.5 million people across 11 countries in the Pacific are under the threat of El Niño. “Humanitarian needs are on the rise across the world. In the Pacific, countries are acutely vulnerable to a range of increasing natural hazards and the emerging impacts of climate change. It has never been more important for those working across development, humanitarian response and risk reduction to be synchronized,” stated Sune Gudnitz, Head of the OCHA, Regional Office for the Pacific.
