Rallying call!

It has come to our notice that more and more people are receiving our information from the website alone, and thus forgoing the small cost of subscribing to Share International magazine.

Not everyone can, or does, use the internet, and it is essential to have an outer, physical expression, which can display with photographs, the events of which we speak. That means there has to be a magazine, which of course requires a lot of work from volunteers, and a lot of money to produce. There may be a notion that Hierarchy dishes out money for this work, but it is not the case. Subscriptions to Share International are an essential part of maintaining our work and reaching the public. The cost of the subscription is kept as low as possible, the magazine is not subsidised by advertisements and printing and postal charges are mounting all the time.

Surely we would all agree that all those who seriously believe in this work would want to support the magazine, whether or not they read the information on the internet.

Problems awaiting action

It can be said without fear of contradiction that not all is right with the world. For example, the gap between the very rich and the hopelessly poor grows ever wider. This extreme imbalance is not healthy for any society. To be sure a few members of the rich community do indeed share their wealth with the poor, but in general the very rich aim rather at becoming mega-rich to the detriment of all.

The ever-increasing commercialization of every aspect of life today is, in itself, a ‘time bomb’ whose rupture will bring the present economic structure to its knees. This time is not far off. So great are the tensions caused by this deep materialism that equilibrium is strained to breaking point. Most people are unaware of these forces, so deeply involved are they in the building of the tension.

Thus will be presented to men their only natural course: the adoption of the principle of sharing. More and more, humanity is being edged towards this realization, however distant as yet are they from its actual manifestation.

At the same time the ecological problems facing the world continue to a climax. Most countries today recognize that global warming is the enemy of all. The question which divides the nations is whether and to what extent man is responsible. The wisest course that men can follow is to assume that they are responsible for most of the pressures on the climate and to take all practical measures to rectify the problems. Some nations assuredly are doing so but not all. Our advice is that the actions and non-actions of humanity are responsible for eighty per cent of the problem and that men must, for their own and their children’s sake, spare nothing in its alleviation. Be assured that We will help them but they must play their part.

With the collapse of the world economy men will come to realize their oneness. This realization will have a profound effect on their attitude to war. They will see that they are bound together in a struggle for survival, and the words of Maitreya will resound more loudly in their minds. Sharing, justice and freedom will grow in men’s minds as powerful symbols of the future, as inherent rights of all, the way to correct relationship.

Q. (1) Is Maitreya still giving television interviews in Russia? (2) How many have there been to date? As of 6 February 2014 there had been 36. What is the total in Russia now?

A. (1)Yes. (2) 41 (As of Friday 14 March.)

Q. Please be so kind as to give an overview showing how many interviews Maitreya has given in each country so far; it would really help for when we give talks. People like to know how many interviews there were in each country.

A. USA: 29 interviews (January 2010-January 2011); Mexico: 14 interviews (January-September 2011); Brazil: 41 (September 2011-January 2013); Russia: 41 so far (from January 2013 to the present time). A total of 125 interviews so far.

Q. Has Maitreya increased the number of His interviews given the problems in the Ukraine and Russia at present?

A. No.

Q. Has Maitreya been present in Kiev at the demonstrations?

A. Yes.

Q. Has the Master in Moscow been involved in any way in the current situation in Russia and Ukraine to try to de-escalate the tension?

A. Not directly.

Q. Can we hope that people power in Russia calling for peace will influence matters?

A. Yes.

Q. What would you say to people who appear to be somewhat evolved but turn their backs on service, feeling that they are ‘not ready’ to serve?

A. “Get ready and don’t miss the opportunity! You don’t know how long you will live and have that opportunity.”

Q. Where does the drive to serve come from? I observe that people I know, both in the groups and outside of them, appear to lack the impulse to serve.

A. The soul comes into incarnation to serve. I cannot speak for those not in the groups but people are in the groups because they have some desire to serve.

Q. Why is fear so bad? Isn’t it, after all, simply a normal human response?

A. It is certainly a human response but ask yourself when are you at your best? When you are afraid or free from fear?

Q. Is it possible to become fearless, even if one is not a third, fourth or fifth degree initiate?

A. Yes you can be fearless at any stage in life – fear is an infection.

Q. Why is it that most neuroses and glamours can be traced back to fear?

A. Because fear so controls the astral elemental.

Q. As a painter, is it not a huge sacrifice for you, Mr Creme, to devote your time to making known the return of Maitreya and the Masters, as you do?

A. What does the world need more – my art or Maitreya?

Q. How many people does Maitreya have behind him now?

A. He can count on nearly 2 billion.

Q. (1) Are there any countries combating climate change at present? (2) Are some countries more advanced in their use of and research into alternative energy sources?

A. (1) Yes, countries like China, and some European countries (such as the UK, Germany, Scandinavia). (2) Yes, very much so.

Q. I have to fly a lot in connection with family affairs and on business; I feel guilty but at the moment it is unavoidable. I always pay extra towards some ecological fund or scheme. I guess it’s not really enough, is it? What else can I do to offset my carbon footprint?

A. Join Friends of the Earth or other such organizations.

Q. In my local supermarket I can buy fresh green beans from Egypt, Senegal and Morocco and other produce, which may or may not be in season where I live. I can’t help wondering whether poor people in those countries have access to fresh vegetables. On the other hand, if we buy their produce does it support the economy of such countries?

A. Only a world system of sharing the world’s produce will produce a sane and equitable solution to these problems.

Q. Do you think the idea of sharing in the way you and the Hierarchy mean it is catching on? Are people beginning to see sharing as the only solution? If so, in which countries is the idea most prevalent so far?

A. There is a beginning of understanding of the necessity for sharing in many countries of the world to a greater or lesser degree. Eventually, and I believe fairly soon, this will broaden to be seen as the number one priority in the world.

Q. (1) In what way are 24-hour Transmission Meditations different from ordinary, regular Transmissions? (2) Is it not better to really concentrate and transmit well for, say 10 hours/five hours/three hours with 10 or 20 people than 24 hours with, at times, only three people? (SI, March 1992)

A. (1) They are much longer! Also, they are infrequent, three times a year, at the major Spring Festivals of Easter, Wesak and of Humanity. (2) The answer here is a qualified yes. The Three Spring Festivals, however, provide a unique opportunity for Transmission Meditation groups around the world to establish together a potent rhythm. Throughout 24 hours, Hierarchy can link all working groups together into the global network of light which They are constantly creating and potentizing. There is also a powerful psychological factor involved, namely the added stimulus to aspiration and service which the celebration of these Festivals promotes.

Looks aren’t everything

Dear Editor,
On 1 March 2014 my daughter, a friend and I were on our way from Soria to the lecture on the Emergence of Maitreya, in Barcelona. When we arrived at the train station we decided to take a taxi to the hotel as we had our luggage with us.

Outside the station we headed towards the taxi parking. There were two parallel lines of taxis and we went toward the first one in the queue. There I saw a very tall man who was opening and closing the taxi’s doors for the passengers. He seemed to look and not look at us at the same time. He had long hair and dark glasses. Sincerely I didn’t want to take that taxi, but I felt a pull towards it.

When we arrived, we saw that the back bumper was broken at the side, fixed with some tape. I told myself: “Oof, this does not look good.”

He opened the boot to put in our luggage. My friend placed his backpack in the boot and the man was about to close it just as my daughter and I were about to place our luggage in there. He apologized saying that there were no more space in the boot. I looked inside and realized that there was no place for anything, it was full of things. I was amazed.

When we began the ride, I started to feel an energy of peace, serenity, enjoying the ride, although it was only a 10 minute ride.

I also have to say that his hands were very big; one on the steering wheel and the other on the gearstick, and he changed gears with only two fingers.

Could you please tell us who this man was? Could he have been one of the Masters?

Soft landing

Dear Editor,
I thought I’d ask about an experience I had when I was a child, over 35 years ago. I was about 11 years old. My younger brother and his friends we were visiting had got a swing rope tied to a tree branch which stood at the top on the edge of a hole where the ground fell away, and they were swinging over the pit, having a great time. The floor of the hole had become a rubbish dump and it might have been about 15 feet deep, maybe more. Their game looked like fun, so, even though I wasn’t a terribly physically confident child (unlike my younger brother), and wouldn’t usually join in with this sort of thing, I did and clambered on the rope with the others – and we swung out over the pit. This soon became really painful for me, for some reason, and I couldn’t hold my grip; so much so that I (foolishly) let go of the rope and fell into the pit below. It was quite a drop. I fell onto a glass pane, landing on my back, and, as I turned my head, I noticed I was only a foot or so from a protruding rusty spike. Bizarrely, the fall was entirely painless and I was completely unhurt; and, at the time, I remember thinking it was like magic – it had been just like landing on a soft feather bed! I also remember thinking that I was lucky to have missed the rusty spike.

The other boys and my brother were really bothered about me; but I was completely fine and walked back on my own feeling fairly pleased with myself. It was then, as I was walking back, that I seemed to hear a voice: a very kind voice, but it was slightly stern too. The voice said something like: “Look after your physical body. It is an important vehicle. Don’t put it in needless danger.” I may not have the words exactly right. But I continued to walk back, now feeling a touch ashamed!

Was I just lucky, or was the ‘soft landing’ the result of some special help?

Dear Editor,
On 17 December 2013 in the evening I watched on the internet two Darshan videos: first of Mother Meera, then of Sathya Sai Baba. I have watched these videos many times before but on this occasion I experienced in my mouth the taste and fragrance of vibuthi-ash. The fragrance and wonderful energy stayed with me until now. Please kindly confirm whether this was a special blessing from Sathya Sai Baba or Mother Meera or perhaps a Master?

Unexpected gift

Dear Editor,
Two years ago I travelled by InterCity train from Bratislava to Liptovsky Mikulas in Slovakia. Across from me sat a man from Libya looking at me in a strange way all the time. He started to talk to me and we exchanged some information. Nothing would be strange about it if I hadn’t come to the subject of the Christ Consciousness teaching. During our conversation he bought me some food; this has never happened to me before and I travel all the time. I gave him my contact information as he asked to meet me again before he returned home.

It was a very interesting and surprising experience, because it was the only one in my life. Maybe you’ll find it trivial, but from now on I feel a presence of God who is taking me through the teaching of who I am and through my journey here on Earth. It appeared to me that on that train it was the great Lord Maitreya himself and it was highly surprising and touching at the same time. I am curious why would he take notice of myself particularly. It was a long time ago but I still can see his face.

I don’t know if I’ll get an answer and maybe it is not important, but I am so grateful for this experience. It’s just a shame that at that time I was in the process of cleansing and only at the beginning of getting to know the God in myself and the Ascended Masters, because they teach me and guide me and therefore at that time I had not been able to feel Maitreya fully.

Those who love their brothers are My people. Those who stand on the threshold of the future are of My choice. Those who know the way are My pupils. Show the world, My dear ones, how well you are taught. Show the world, My friends, that you stand for Justice and Love, for Sharing and Freedom, and manifest My Law. (Maitreya, from Message No.124)


There begins now a great adventure for men which will take them to the highest heights. In simplicity will the new life be known and lived, rich and full in meaning and purpose. From ‘The Waters of Life’ of Aquarius will flow that spiritual abundance for which all men in their hearts yearn.

In this way a new approach will be made to the problems of money and power, privilege and prestige. The desire to serve will replace the desire for gain, and the longing for justice will supplant divisive greed. Each one has a part to play in the creation of this new freedom. My friends, I am nearer to you than you could know, for I sit within the heart of all those who love their brothers, of all those who wish to share and release the light of Justice and Freedom into the world.

We have to enlarge our concept of spirituality and see that we must have spiritually-based political and economic structures. That means sharing and justice – these are spiritual aspects.

Maitreya says: “Sharing is divine ... When you share you recognize God in your brother.” This is not just a nice idea, it is a divine idea. It is the nature of divinity. Justice is divine, freedom is divine, and Maitreya comes to show us how to make justice and freedom through sharing. Then we will make spiritually correct political, economic and religious structures. (Benjamin Creme, Maitreya’s Mission Volume Two)


Maitreya’s presence will galvanise humanity into making the necessary changes in our political, economic and social life that will guarantee peace, justice and freedom for all humanity. His major concern is the disparity in living standards between the developed and developing worlds, which, He says, threatens the future of the race. Terrorism is one of the main symptoms of these divisions. Maitreya sees the principle of sharing as the key to the solution of our manifold problems, and the means of bringing humanity into right relationship. Maitreya has said: “Take your brother’s need as the measure for your action and solve the problems of the world. There is no other course.” (Benjamin Creme, Unity in Diversity)


Liberation is the goal for mankind. To that goal I shall point the way, shall lead you forward, and cut before you the steps of ascent.

My Masters will show you how to live simply and well and in full happiness. They have trodden the road before and know well the way.

Like children in full trust, let Them show you that Way; let Them take you step by step through the labyrinth. And when you are ready, before My Splendour shall you come, and through Me shall you see the face of God.

Make your choice well, My friends; make it now. Take your stand with those who wish to share and love, with those for whom Justice is divine. (Maitreya, from Message No.18)


When you experience freedom you will find that it is not outside but within you. You will know that real freedom, real security, real salvation is within you. The moment you experience freedom from mind, spirit and body (ie from conditioning) you realize you are the eternal spark of the Supreme Creator. Each and every thing around you and within you belongs to the Almighty. It cannot be gained or lost. It is indivisible. It belongs to One and All. Maitreya is not a religious teacher. He is essentially a Spiritual Teacher including a concern about the political, economic and social needs of the world. He is the World Teacher for all people, religious or not. Most people tend to see the religious path as the only spiritual path. It is only one of many paths to the experience of God. We have so enshrouded politics and economics in a deep materialism that we have landed ourselves in the critical conditions of today. We must have spiritual politics and economics through sharing, justice and freedom for all people. That is the aim of Maitreya. Love is the action of just sharing. That is the way to peace. Throughout the world men are awakening to the possibility of a better life with freedom and justice at its heart. Have no fear, the people’s voice is rising and like a contagion affecting more and more. Maitreya stands behind those who live – or die – for the truth of freedom, justice and the unity of man. It is world public opinion, as it expresses itself through the peoples of the world, which will change the world. Maitreya’s task is to galvanise world public opinion and focus it through a few simple ideas, so that people everywhere are calling for justice, for freedom; for sharing as the only way to achieve justice and the end of war, the creation of peace. Peace and the end of terrorism are dependent on the creation of justice, and only one thing will accomplish that: sharing the resources of the world. (Benjamin Creme, Unity in Diversity)


Humanity has the means but so far lacks the will to change. We must see ourselves as One, each man and woman a reflection of the Divine, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters of the One Father. We must banish war for ever from this Earth; we must share the resources of this planet which belong to all. We must learn to live in harmony with the planet itself to know a future of harmony with each other.

Maitreya has come to show men the way, and to galvanize man’s actions. Across the globe, men are finding their voice and calling for justice and freedom. Many have died to claim their right, God given, to freedom and justice. His call is for all men and women everywhere to see themselves as He sees them, as Divine, Sons and Daughters of Divinity Itself. I address you tonight as those who seek the truth. My friends, the Truth stands among you. The Truth is in your hearts. The Truth, My friends, My brothers and sisters, is Love and Sharing, Justice and Freedom. Make these manifest in your lives and communities, and re-establish the Plan of God. Take your stand for Justice, Freedom and Life, and become equipped with the Power of God. Naught can withstand the Power of God. Naught can halt the Plan of God. Help Me, My brothers and sisters, in My Task, and inform all you know that the need for Justice is paramount in our lives. The lack of this alone separates man from man and threatens mankind itself. Welcome to the Feast

In recent years, a new phenomenon has emerged: men have begun to demand of governments their right to freedom and self-determination. Until now, spasmodic attempts to ensure such God-given rights have indeed occurred, and historic revolutions record the perennial longing of men for their divine heritage as free sons of God. Today, however, a new and powerful impulse for freedom spreads across the world: millions demand the basic right to regulate their lives and evolution.

Governments, now, must take stock of this demand, and accommodate their policies to this imperative. Few there are who can with impunity ignore the legitimate cry for justice and freedom which rises from the hearts of beleaguered mankind.

Needless to say, behind this cry for freedom stands Maitreya and His group. For long have They sought to stimulate this demand, awakening men to the necessity of individual freedom, without which the greatest achievements are as naught. Slowly but surely, men have responded to this higher call, and stand now, all but united, to make known their demands and to inherit their birthright as evolving sons of God.

Soon, this cry will break upon the conscience of the world, and a new chapter will open on the evolution of the race. Maitreya will advocate – and millions will respond – that the time has come to recognize the rights of all men for a fair and just participation in world affairs; for a degree of freedom commensurate with natural justice; and for the institution of measures which will ensure the rights of all to the necessities of daily living.

Inevitably, there will be resistance to this call for justice and freedom; many there are who treasure these only for themselves. Nevertheless, the simple truth of these basic needs will dawn upon the world, and, in gratitude, men will turn to Maitreya for His guidance and succour. Thus will it be; thus will the Son of Man guide anew the sons of men. Thus will men renew their covenant with the evolutionary plan and begin again their ascent to the highest.

The time is now upon us when all must take their stand: for or against all future progress on Earth – that is the question which each one must face. The future calls you into freedom and justice, and bids you welcome to the feast.

Weeping Madonna statue in Israel

Thousands of people have visited the home of a Greek Orthodox family in Tarshiha, Northern Israel, to see a statue of the Madonna that weeps oil. On 12 February 2014, Amira Khoury discovered oil on the face of the statue that her family had bought the previous year.

Speaking of the statue, Khoury said, “My sister came and cleaned her face and we waited to see what would happen. Then we saw oil weep from her eyes. We were shocked. The next day we woke up and checked the statue and found that it was covered with oil.” Khoury said the statue “spoke to her”, telling her not to be afraid. Dear Editor,

On morning of 28 August 2013, while my spirits were not very high, I had the pleasant surprise to find in the central part of the kiwi that I had cut in half the drawing of a heart, with the feeling of an obvious love. I send you the photo I took just after that.

Can you tell me if it is a Master’s sign and from which Master it comes?

Biblical figure

Dear Editor,

My nephew, José Luis, who is 19 years old, was in Rome in June 2013. One night, on 25 June, between 4 to 5am, he was with a friend in front of the Vatican, sitting in a bench, when they saw passing by a tall man with dark hair and a beard, dressed in a white robe. They took a photo of him. He greeted them in Spanish with a “Buenas noches” (Good night) and continued walking till he stopped a bit further away. He crouched down. At that point my nephew and his friend walked away. We wondered if perhaps this young man was the Master Jesus?

Eight-year-old girl cries ‘stones’

In a case reminiscent of several others reported over the years in Share International, eight-year-old Saadia Al Jaharani is baffling Yemeni medical experts as she weeps small stones.

Saadia’s father, Mohammad Saleh Al Jaharani, speaking to Gulf News from his small village in the western Yemeni province of Hodeida, said that his daughter suddenly began producing stones from her eyes in late January 2014. He said: “She has had many X-rays in local clinics. Doctors said that they detected nothing extraordinary with her eyes.”

A YouTube video by Yemen’s Azal TV shows the girl’s eyes producing tiny gravel-like stones from underneath her eyelids – instead of tears. A local doctor interviewed by the television channel said he could not find any scientific explanation for the phenomenon.

The girl also cries tears and her eyes do not produce stones when she is asleep. Most of the stones come out in the afternoon and evening. The stones do not hurt and she lives a normal life. According to her father, Saadia’s eyes sometimes produce as many as 100 stones a day. “None of my other children has ever gone through the same condition,” he said. When Israeli Therese Daoud was diagnosed at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital with cancer on her leg, Professor Yaakov Bickels, head of the Orthopaedic Oncology Department at the hospital, said the biopsy showed a sarcoma the size of an orange. “This is one of the most aggressive and terrifying of all cancerous tumours,” the Professor said. “With a tumour developed to this degree, the only treatment we could offer Therese was to amputate her leg.”

Therese was in shock but resigned herself to life with only one leg. However the operation was delayed twice and the third time she postponed it herself because her mother was sick. It was then that she had a change of mind. “Three times the surgery was delayed,” she said. “This was a clear sign to me from heaven that I should not have the surgery.” The Professor said: “When she told me that she had decided not to have the leg amputated, it was clear to me she would soon die. I was sorry about her decision.”

Therese prayed in church for a cure. Three months later she walked unaided into Professor Bickel’s office with a “huge smile of her face”. An MRI scan and biopsy showed no cancer. Doctors and nurses could not believe the results. “We kept checking her records over and over,” said Bickels. “We just could not accept that the cancer had gone without any treatment.”

Israeli news stations reporting the miracle could find no explanation other than the power of faith. Medical staff even tested the food and water she took, but to no avail. There remained only one option, says Israel Today, “that prayer in Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel, still heals today”. (Source: israeltoday.co.il)

Research into near-death experiences

“…death is only an interlude in a life of steadily accumulating experience… it marks a definite transition from one state of consciousness into another.”

“…death can be best regarded as the experience which frees us from the illusion of form…” (Alice A.Bailey, From Bethlehem to Calvary, quoted in the Prologue to Death: the Great Adventure)

Decades of research into near-death experiences include many thousands of first-person reports from people who were pronounced clinically dead yet seemed to travel into another dimension, gaining comfort from contact with deceased loved ones and wisdom from beings who offer them the purest love. Most importantly, many who have survived thanks to the improved resuscitation techniques of modern medicine report that after such experiences they lose their fear of death. The experiences of such people seem to accord more with the views of great spiritual masters and less with the current materialist paradigm upheld by many modern scientists. In the words of Alice A. Bailey who worked closely with the Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul: “Death is essentially a matter of consciousness. We are conscious one moment on the physical plane, and a moment later we have withdrawn onto another plane and are actively conscious there.” (Death: The Great Adventure, Part II)

When a person has suffered either cardiac arrest or some other serious injury, and where there is no longer any heartbeat and the brain appears to have shut down or ‘flat-lined’, that person is usually considered clinically dead. However, much recent research seems to indicate the survival of a consciousness separate from the physical body, as in the following examples among many.

A man with severe heart problems was near death and his sister, in another part of the hospital, was in a diabetic coma. The man left his body, saw the medical personnel trying to resuscitate him, then suddenly found himself talking to his sister about what was going on. She then moved away from him and he saw her receding through a tunnel. When he awoke he told the doctor his sister had died, and although the doctor denied it at first, a nurse confirmed she had died. (Raymond Moody, The Light Beyond)

Many people report going through a tunnel and then emerging into beautiful brilliant light. Then they often meet deceased relatives, they see beautiful meadows and flowers of indescribably vivid colours, and extraordinary, unconditional love surrounds them. At this stage a ‘Being of light’ often appears and communicates telepathically. Many report seeing the major events of their life rolling by. They can see how they hurt people, and they are able to feel the emotions their wrongdoing caused. They are able to judge themselves during this process precisely because they not only ‘see’ as in a film, but feel what they did, and this forms the basis of their sense of regret. A ‘Being of light’ (some call him God, or Jesus, or if they do not believe in any religion, they describe a Being of unconditional love) guides and envelops the person with all-embracing love and light. In some descriptions this love and light appear to be interchangeable.

At some point the person concerned often becomes aware of a boundary and knows that beyond it is a point of no return. Beyond that boundary some people have referred to a wondrous city of light: ‘I could see a city…. There were buildings…. They were gleaming, bright. People were happy there. There was sparkling water, fountains … a city of light I guess would be the way to say it…. It was wonderful…. But if I had entered this, I think I would never have returned.” (Raymond Moody, Reflections on Life After Life) Although people often do not wish to return, they may be encouraged to do so with words such as “Your children need you” or “You still have things to do”.

A neurosurgeon’s account

An American neurosurgeon, Dr Eben Alexander, was deaf to interesting experiences that surviving patients tried to tell him about. He describes himself as a ‘kinetic learner’, not very interested in things he couldn’t feel or touch. He loved the ‘cleanness’ of science: as he puts it, a patient suffering from headaches and diminished consciousness is given an MRI scan which reveals a brain tumour. The patient is operated on, the brain tumour is removed, and the symptoms disappear. Dr Alexander also knew when he looked at neurons through a microscope that science had not discovered how the brain gives rise to consciousness. But he was confident that science would one day have the answers. He fully supported the materialist view that the mind is but a higher function of the brain. Yet, when he was in a coma for a week after contracting a rare form of bacterial meningitis, he underwent an extraordinary journey where he contacted a ‘being’ in the form of a beautiful young girl, who told him simply (without words) that he was loved and cherished. He realised that love is “the basis of everything”, that it was not some difficult, abstract concept but powerful, pure, unconditional, not jealous or selfish. He also encountered a divine being and somehow “This Being was so close that there seemed to be no distance at all between God and myself.” (Proof of Heaven)

Dr Alexander’s many questions were answered by this Being who, despite its vastness, was “warm” and “personal”. “I saw the abundance of life through the countless universes, including some whose intelligence was advanced far beyond that of humanity.” He saw “countless higher dimensions” that could only be known through experiencing them and entering them directly (Proof of Heaven). He affirms that knowledge in this state of being was acquired as direct insight, without having to be memorised, stored directly and clearly remembered.

How the lives of survivors change

Many survivors of NDEs not only lose their fear of death, but also experience a ‘life review’ that seems to lead to a resolve to ‘do better’, especially in the sense of caring more for others: Victor, from Russia, had no religious background, suffered from depression and worried about finishing his studies. His life seemed meaningless. Then, during an NDE, he was enveloped in an extraordinary light where there was love and peace and he felt totally secure. “An invisible force had opened up new paths along which I must travel, something to strive for, that my life was not in vain” and that he should have goals that “fill the needs of those around me as well as my own” and that every day “should be filled with good and meaningful activities”. Gulden, from Turkey, says that after his NDE he meets people with more joy and hardly ever gets angry. “My day is full of love and peaceful. I feel pleasure by helping strangers.” Suresh, from India, says “God was love, light and motion”, that he had to cleanse heart and mind to receive him by apologising to all those he had quarrelled with or “all those to whom I have knowingly or unknowingly caused pain”. He added that the kind of love he experienced “cannot be expressed in words”. As Benjamin Creme’s Master writes:

“In the coming cycle of Aquarius, an entirely new approach to the Law of Rebirth will be taken. ….

Men will know that they themselves create, through thought and action, the circumstances of their lives; but also that by the working of these same laws they can transform and change for the better their natures and conditions.

This will lead to a revaluation of life’s meaning and purpose and a healthier approach to the fact of death. An understanding of the continuity of all life, incarnate or not, will replace the present fear; the old phobia of death as the end of everything will vanish in the new light which will illumine the minds of men. Into the darkest corners of superstition and ignorance this new light will shine, awakening men to an awareness of their divinity as immortal souls.”

‘Business without bosses’ – democracy in the workplace

One of the most controversial and paradoxical features of our modern democracies is that, while representative government systems and smaller participatory ones are encouraged and well-regarded around the world, the workplace, where people spend a large part of their lives, is still governed by laws and attitudes which are remarkably undemocratic.

Although many theories of modern business management and human resources speak of the importance of workers in companies and factories, in fact, limited participation is allowed employees in the formulation of policies with regard to production, wages and sales policies. This often results in companies and factories becoming extremely unequal workplaces, where the few reap the fruits of work done by many, and where policies are often completely at odds not only with the interests of their workers, but often with the community where employees live.

A new model has been emerging in the world in recent decades. Though they are still relatively few in number their growth denotes a new consciousness emerging in the world of work – more egalitarian, more participatory and socially responsible. It also shows that such experiments are bringing gains to workers and their communities. These experiments are the factories and ‘businesses without bosses’.


By definition, businesses without bosses, also known as self-management enterprises, comprise what is called a “worker’s control and ownership of the means of production”.

With regard to control and ownership, workers define policies for production, wages and sales usually through worker assemblies. Such assemblies meet at various times, usually depending on the size of the company or factory and its needs. Small firms tend to have more frequent meetings. In some cases, the assemblies vote, for example for fellow workers to assume the positions of president, secretary, treasurer. The term of office for each of these positions varies from company to company, but usually they tend not to be long, and in the case of some businesses appointments may be revoked by the assembled workers. In the vast majority of these projects, the whole workforce is the highest power. Wage policies in such firms tend to be, if not completely egalitarian, virtually equal with a very limited variation in salaries.

In Latin America and some other countries worker-ownership has developed into a powerful way for people to defend their rights against steadily growing labor deregulation.

Workers’ democracy in Latin America

In Latin America, the phenomenon of labor cooperatives – factories without bosses – began to grow in the early 1990s. With the advance of neoliberal policies, the opening of national markets to foreign companies and increasing privatization, self-managing companies have become the new way for workers to resist increasingly precarious working conditions. On this continent, worker-led businesses were usually formed by workers in bankrupt firms that failed in the period of economic restructuring.  Employers were often unable to pay wages; labor rights and the law (in many Latin American countries) gave workers the right to take over the business themselves as compensation for unpaid wages and unfulfilled rights.


Brazil has one of the most advanced solidarity economies in the world, though it has received little media attention outside of Brazil. It could be called the Brazilian solidarity economy.

Most such companies recovered thanks to worker self-management. How this process worked out in practice differed from country to country. In Brazil, for example, many unions and workers’ organizations helped workers to make the transition to a new type of business. In addition, other organizations in Brazil were created solely to assist workers to move towards self-management. Two examples of such organizations are the Cooperative and Self-Managed Enterprise Centre UNISOL (Central de Cooperativas e Empreendimentos Solidários) and the National Association of Workers in Self-managing Enterprises – ANTEAG….


Unlike Brazil, where social and labor organizations usually supported and helped workers, in the case of Argentine worker cooperatives the process was much more independent and autonomous. The Argentine crisis in the early 2000s forced several factories into bankruptcy. As in other cases, it took long and arduous battles in court for workers in bankrupt companies to win the right to manage their former companies as compensation for wages and rights which were outstanding. However, the Argentine case is emblematic, marked as it was by a very tense standoff between many of the newly resuscitated workers’ cooperative teams and their former employers. The conflict was often so fierce that in some cases employers destroyed their own factories in order to prevent workers from taking them over and breathing new life into them. As a strategy, many workers then decided to sleep in the old companies’ premises to prevent the destruction of machinery and other office equipment. This situation created a strong sense of fellowship and camaraderie between factory workers in Argentine. The assistance that many workers received from community members made the workers also realize that they would have to have a social function beyond simply making a profit….

The history of Inveval, a worker-owned metal industry in Venezuela, is closely linked with a phenomenon experienced by the Venezuelan people: the sabotage and halt of the operation of several companies and factories at the end 2002 and early 2003. The former Constructora Nacional de Válvulas, now Inveval, participated in the sabotage of the Chavez government. Its owner had prevented workers from entering the industry, and as workers began to demand the right to work, their labor contracts were ended. When the sabotage ended in 2003, workers from Inveval filed a lawsuit against the then owner. After many struggles, demonstrations which were supported by the local community, the Chavez government allowed the company to be nationalized. This occurred in 2005, with the government compensating the former owner of the industry. With the factory already nationalized, workers were finally able to return to work, this time organized into a cooperative. The control of the enterprise, however, was in the hands of a junta, in which representatives of the cooperative and the government participated. After some time the workers demanded that the factory be fully controlled by themselves. After a meeting with president Chavez in 2007, representatives of Inveval received the news that the company would be nationalized with a new structure – the controle obreiro (workers’ control). The workers of Inveval could finally organize themselves into a system of self-management. Decisions in the factory are made by the general assembly which meets once a month, and also on exceptional occasions. The assembly also elects the council of the factory and in the case of Inveval, the mandates of the directors are fully revocable. In addition, the factory has a policy that aims to give all employees at least one experience of working in the Council. The same policy also pertains in relation to other positions in the company. Pay, which in 2009 was set just above the Venezuelan minimum wage, is the same for all workers.

The bonds of friendship created by workers of Inveval with members of their community during the struggle for nationalization of the factory seem to have created a strong sense of social responsibility. The factory is often open to the public for community activities. The workers also began to engage in solving other problems in their community in various ways, including support for community initiatives aiming at solving problems and policies for the region through decisions made by a popular assembly. In effect the workers of Inveval have moved from being defenders of democracy in the workplace to defenders of participatory democracy at a local level.

It is also interesting to note that the Chavez government itself, in its defeated proposal to reform the constitution in 2007, aimed to create the definition of a new type of company, a socialist company controlled by the workers, very similar to the Inveval model. Inveval is perhaps the most perfect example of how labor-controlled firms have the power, not only to transform their workers and their communities, but also to influence the policies and ideas of their own governments.

Toxic chemicals linked to ‘global, silent pandemic’ striking children worldwide

Toxic chemicals, including some pesticides and solvents, may be behind the increasing number of cases of neurodevelopmental disabilities – including autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) – among children, researchers warn.

The findings are presented in a study by Philippe Grandjean, adjunct professor of environmental health at Harvard School of Public Health, and Philip Landrigan, Dean for Global Health at Mount Sinai, USA, published online in February 2014 in Lancet Neurology.

“The greatest concern is the large numbers of children who are affected by toxic damage to brain development in the absence of a formal diagnosis. They suffer reduced attention span, delayed development and poor school performance. Industrial chemicals are now emerging as likely causes,” said Grandjean.

The new study follows similar research by the authors published in 2006 in which they reviewed clinical and epidemiological studies and identified five industrial chemicals as developmental neurotoxicants: lead, methylmercury, polychlorinated biphenyls, arsenic and toluene.

Grandjean and Landrigan’s current review updates that list and adds six newly recognized developmental neurotoxicants: manganese, fluoride, chlorpyrifos and DDT (pesticides), tetrachloroethylene (a solvent), and the polybrominated diphenyl ethers (often used as flame retardants).

Manganese has been linked to diminished intellectual function and impaired motor skills, and solvents have been linked to hyperactivity and aggressive behavior, the authors write.

“The presumption that new chemicals and technologies are safe until proven otherwise is a fundamental problem,” the authors write, adding, “Voluntary controls seem to be of little value.”

To confront this “global, silent pandemic,” the authors urge an international strategy that takes a precautionary approach to fully evaluate new chemicals before they hit the markets. Testing on industrial chemicals and pesticides already on the market should also take place, they say.

“The problem is international in scope, and the solution must therefore also be international,” Grandjean said. “We have the methods in place to test industrial chemicals for harmful effects on children’s brain development—now is the time to make that testing mandatory.”

Towards elimination of plastic waste

In recent years, whales have died from malnutrition and disease from stomach and intestinal blockage due mostly to eating a mixture of many kilogrammes of plastic bags, fishing gear, and plastic sheeting used in greenhouses to grow produce for sale in our supermarkets. These grey and sperm whales, Gervais’ and Cuvier’s beaked whales, mistake our plastic debris for their prey, squid. Sea turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, and thousands of albatross chicks on the Midway Atoll die when fed a diet of plastic rubbish which their parents mistake for food. Over 1 million birds and 100,000 marine mammals die every year from ingesting or being slowly strangled by our plastic waste. It has been estimated that since the 1970s, about 6 million tonnes of rubbish have been poured into the world’s oceans every year, of which waste plastic comprises around 80 per cent. During heavy rain and flooding, waste from terrestrial landfills can find its way through watercourses to the sea, and there is also some waste dumped from marine shipping. Fossil fuels are used to make plastics, which do not biodegrade, but rather photo-degrade into huge numbers of smaller pieces until they become microscopic. Coloured plastic micro-particles have been found on every beach and shore in the world. The polymers making up the plastic retain their intrinsic molecular structure, which prevents any further breakdown. These tiny pieces exist throughout the water column, from the ocean’s surface to the sea floor and can be found in every cubic metre of sea water in differing quantities. Today, it is estimated that the Mediterranean Sea contains over 3 million tonnes of plastic rubbish and global oceans over 200 million tonnes. Every person in the developed world throws away on average 726 kg of plastic waste every year according to the US Environmental Protection Agency….
